Victor Herbert's Hugest B'way Hit "The Red Mill" Receives NYC Renaissance

The Red Mill by Victor Herbert presented by VHRP LIVE!

8pm Tuesday Nov 14 & Wednesday Nov 15

Unique company devoted to restoring Herbert's cultural clout revives his history-making musical comedy in New York City

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, October 31, 2017 / — The Victor Herbert Renaissance Project LIVE! launches its fourth season with The Red Mill, Broadway’s longest running success by Victor Herbert and Henry Blossom.

The Red Mill, a 1906 musical comedy, is the story of how two American con men, Con Kidder (Bass/Baritone Matthew Wages) and Kid Conner (Tenor Drew Bolander), broke, stranded in Holland, agree to aid a damsel (Soprano Sarah Caldwell Smith) in distress. She is being forced by her father the Burgomaster (Baritone Anthony Maida) to marry for old musty prestige — a governor (Baritone David Seatter) — while her true love (Tenor Christopher Robin Sapp) is sailing the bounding sea. Madcap capers involving the legend of an old mill run by the Burgomaster's sister (Soprano Vira Slywotzky) quickly land our lovers in jail, but the day is saved as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson ride to the rescue!

The Red Mill opened on Broadway September 24, 1906 with musical numbers including “Moonbeams,” “The Isle of Our Dreams,” “The Streets of New York,” “Everyday is Ladies’ Day With Me” and “Just Because You’re You.” The musical comedy became the single most financially successful Herbert work to ever grace a Broadway stage, running 274 performances the first time out and adding another 531 Broadway performances when it was revived at the Ziegfeld Theatre in 1945.

Artistic Director of VHRP LIVE!, Alyce Mott, explains “The Red Mill was written for the famous vaudevillian team, David C. Montgomery (1870-1917) and Fred A. Stone (1873-1959). The two men became partners in 1896 and roared to Broadway fame as the Tin Man and the Scarecrow in the 1903 extravaganza Wizard of Oz.“ Mott adds “The Red Mill’s producer Charles Dillingham made theatrical history by adding a revolving, electrically lit red windmill to the top of the Knickerbocker Theatre, giving the Broadway theater district its first trademark signage spectacle. Between Montgomery and Stone and the moving sign, Broadway had a new hit filled with the music of Victor Herbert."

The Red Mill presented by VHRP LIVE includes the additional singing voices and acting talents of Daniel Greenwood, Jonathan Fox Powers, Jonathan Heller, Alexa Devlin, Brian Kilday, Joanie Brittingham, Tanya Roberts, Shane Brown, and Hannah Kurth. Musical direction is by Michael Thomas; libretto and stage direction by Alyce Mott; asst. direction and choreography by Emily Cornelius.

The Red Mill is presented by VHRP LIVE! for two nights only at 8pm, Tuesday Nov 14th, and 8pm, Wednesday Nov 15th, 2017 in Christ and St Stephen’s Church at 120 West 69th Street (near B'way) in New York City.

Recent Market Study Explore Music Streaming Growth Analysis In Coming Years

Music Streaming – Music industry saved by streaming services

PUNE, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA, October 30, 2017 / —

WiseGuyReports published new report, titled “Music Streaming”

The way music lovers listen to music has evolved all the way from its birth time in the 15th century when music publishers began by using machine-printed sheet music to distribute their audio art creations which then moved on to radio broadcasting, to the creation of record vinyls, to CD-ROMs, to mp4 music downloads from iTunes to now – streaming music online via the power of the internet. According to data from the Recording Industry Association of America, sales from streaming fueled the fastest growth in the world’s biggest music market since 1998. While the growth is apparent globally, American music listeners make up a vast portion of the industry and companies such as Apple and Spotify have had a lot to do with this growth. For listeners, it works out much cheaper to subscribe to streaming services and listen to unlimited ad free music, providing the streamer has the licenses to showcase the listeners’ favorite artists. Instead of paying $0.99 a song or $5.99 for an album off iTunes for example – at the cost of $10 a month, they could instead listen to all the albums and songs on Apple’s database not having to worry about storage too, seeing as it is all streamed via an internet connection.

Canadian Singer-Songwriter Dareck Mckay Releases Debut Single “Hold My Own”

Dareck Mckay

Canadian singer-songwriter Dareck Mckay announces the release of his debut single "Hold My Own."

Having grown up with a mother that struggled with addictions throughout my childhood, it brought many adversities.”

— Dareck Mckay

VANCOUVER, ONTARIO, CANADA, October 28, 2017 / — Dareck Mckay fans are delighted by the news of the upcoming release of the singer-songwriter’s debut single “Hold My Own,” due to be released on November 1st, 2017. The single is one of the tracks on Dareck’s EP “Mother,” produced by Cory Woodward and due to be released in January, 2018.

“Hold My Own” was inspired by Dareck’s own life experiences, and touches on the challenges he’s been forced to face and how he’s been able to overcome them.

“Having grown up with a mother that struggled with addictions throughout my childhood it brought many adversities,” explains Dareck. “Music has given me an outlet to release a lot of banked emotions off my chest and shoulders.”

Dareck discovered his love of music at an early age. His earliest memories are all about listening to Rock n’ Roll with his father, who brought him up single-handedly. In High School he formed a metal band with three friends called Stitched in Silence. So popular was the band that at the age of 16, they were touring Canada and some of the Western states in a small van.

“We played anywhere that would have us,” recalls Dareck, “Roller rinks, halls, bars, you name it. It was quite the experience!”

But playing bass in the band wasn’t Dareck’s dream. His real passion was for the acoustic guitar. In 2007 he parted ways with the band to discover his own unique style, and began his journey into alternative rock. Within a year, his mother had succumbed to lung and brain cancer. Consumed with emotion, Dareck poured his feelings into song writing, and hasn’t looked back since.

His first EP, “Mother,” was recorded in April 2017 with Cory Woodward of Lion Bear Fox. The song is a compelling blend of acoustic guitar and soft, emotive lyrics in an alternative rock style. His words tell a story and send a heartfelt message to its listeners. For Dareck, his music is therapy, fueled by personal experiences. For the listener, it’s catchy, melodic and inspirational.

Find out more about Dareck’s music on his website, on Instagram and on Facebook.

Cynthia Harris is the founder and owner of Classical Entertainment, a live-music booking agency specializing in custom ambiance music. A professional pianist and music educator in her own right, with Classical Entertainment, Cynthia books quality talent for discerning clients, contracting artists ranging from solo instruments to duos, trios, quartets, and custom ensembles within the jazz, pop and classic rock genres, as well as easy listening and lite classical.

TarantisT First Iranian Rock Band To Engage With Americans

TarantisT, now living in Los Angeles, released a new album "Not A Crime"

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, October 25, 2017 / — Formed in 2000 by a group of young underground metalheads, TARANTIST originated in the basement alternative rock and heavy metal scenes in their native Tehran, Iran. Having to perform secretly-but-loudly often proved to be difficult, but after sparking a following via word of mouth in the underground, the band soon began to garner international recognition. Within just a few years, international media correspondents inspired by their story (including BBC, SKY, CNN, NPR, Metal Hammer and Kerrang) started visiting Tehran to meet and talk with TARANTIST. These news reports and articles aided TARANTIST in cultivating a worldwide following – motivating the band to relocate to the United States Los Angeles in 2008.

Although remaining positive, TARANTIST quickly found that they weren't able to fully escape the pressures they faced back home, stemming from "not being Muslim enough." Once they arrived in the United States, they experienced opposite — uncomfortable stereotypes and assumptions directed at them simply based on their culture and/or how they looked — all the while never practicing religion in the first place. Determined, TARANTIST didn't let this slow them down. After growing some roots in North America, the band was invited to play several festivals like SXSW, CMJ, Canadian Music Week and Intergalactic Fest.TARANTIST quickly added to their touring repertoire, performing on the same stages as Metallica, Motörhead, Stone Temple Pilots, Muse, Cheap Trick, Voivod, Sum 41, My Ruin, Ben Harper and many more.

After releasing three full-length albums, an EP and several singles, TARANTIST is pleased to announce the release of their new full-length album, Not A Crime, out now via iTunes, Google Play, Spotify and all other digital retailers, including Amazon. You can listen to a track from the album, "Rain, Pour Down", here:

Similar to what their name suggests (tarantism is defined as a mania characterized by an uncontrollable impulse to dance, popularly attributed to the bite of the tarantula), TARANTIST's music is energetic and keeps the listener moving and headbanging, incorporating a true heavy metal sound mixed with exotic, Iranian flavor. The band's lyricism focuses on themes of anti-extremism, anti-corporate system, human rights and support thereof – including women's rights, religious rights, and freedom of expression in the arts.

Bassist/vocalist Arash says, "Instead of writing and singing in English like we usually do, for Not A Crime, we decided to sing/write in Farsi because we felt we need to pay our dues to the Farsi-speaking community and make history with something like this. The kids of Iran (like everywhere else) are being brainwashed by the propaganda and state media. We feel the new generation needs a fresh and uncensored source of awareness, undiluted music and content, and original material. With this album, we aim to raise awareness regarding human rights issues/violations, freedom of expression in art and music, as well as educating the society and new generation through the story of our lives and what we've been through as of today. If interested, all of our lyrics are available in English at TARANTIST website.

"Musically, we've incorporated some traditional Persian instruments (Zarb, Santoor), with electric guitars, bass, synths and heavy riffs. Like always, we strive to create a combination of new sounds and tones in a groovy way that we ourselves love!"

TARANTIST remain constantly active – releasing new music and videos and spreading the word of freedom throughout the international arts community. Stay tuned for more coming from TARANTIST in the months to come!
