Coalition of creatives come together to create awareness about the use of the masks to help flatten the curve

LAGOS, NIGERIA, June 29, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — COVID-19: Creative Industry Professionals Launch ‘Mask Up AFRICA Campaign,’ to Create Awareness on the use of Masks, Raise Funds to Supply Masks to Underprivileged

Professionals in the Creative Industry across the continent have united to launch the ‘Mask Up AFRICA’ campaign.

The project is led by the Africa Film Academy, the curators of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs) and the Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe Foundation, in partnership with Joyce Banda Foundation International and many other creative collaborators.

According to Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, the initiative was inspired by a famous quote of the Rwanda President, His Excellency, Paul Kagame, who said: “Africa’s story has been written by others; we need to own our own problems and solutions, and write our story.”

She noted that the ‘Mask Up campaign’ is a response to the present reality and aimed at helping Africa cope with the pandemic.

“As COVID-19 continues to ravage the world, most African countries have been compelled to ease their lockdowns due to economic pressure. We are now in the community transmission phase and that is why most African governments have made it mandatory for everyone to wear masks before leaving home.

“But the fact is that 422 million Africans who live below the poverty line of $1 per day, cannot afford a mask, and that is why this campaign is important especially as statistics have shown that wearing of masks does curb the spread of the virus.”

The Coalition's objectives of the Mask Up AFRICA campaign is as follows:

● To create awareness on the importance of wearing masks to curb the spread of COVID-19.
● To raise funds for the procurement and distribution of millions of masks across Africa with basic donations of at least USD$1 as the unit cost of a mask is about 50cents or N200 or CFA500 "

Mask Up AFRICA coalition spokesperson Ms, Oyin Talabi added that clusters of tailors have begun to come together across the continent as work begins on the production of the masks.

"One million masks per country will be produced. This we believe is a way to empower SMES and help build our various internal economies as we invest in small businesses which are the backbone of any country."

Apart from the Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe Foundation, Joyce Banda Foundation International, the other partners include : Charles Granville Company, Femmes et Prisons d'Africa, Pan African Film & Arts Festival, AFC Pan African Consortium, Bodyworks Nigeria, The New Mind, Truliving Africa, BBB Media, Mambokadzi African Media & Entertainment, while many others have indicated interests in joining this collective to make the campaign a huge success.

The coalition calls on people to join the campaign simply by wearing a mask, making a 30-second video supporting the campaign, and showcasing the importance of mask-wearing. Post a picture of yourself wearing a mask on your social media page with the hashtag #MaskUpAfrica.

CELEBRATE Choose Love offers participants the kinds of tools and skills needed to create safe and loving communities. “When we practice compassion in action, all of the nurturing, healing and love that we give out comes back,” said Scarlett Lewis, Jesse's mom and founder of the Choose Love Movement.

The day is dedicated to helping parents and kids of all ages to thrive and survive in our current world while also having a lot of fun. We will be referencing our Choose Love formula throughout the day, and Scarlett will be talking about how it can be used in everyday life.

There will be yoga for kids, lots of upbeat music, story times for children, and techniques to help kids and adults cope with anxiety. Segments will include experts talking about collective grieving over our new normal, and the social injustices people are experiencing. Our partners, the Tapping Solution, David Romanelli, and Zensational Kids will be will be sharing their insights and giving mini-sessions. Performances by Doug Allen, singer/songwriter will perform live from Nashville, and Circus Zambia who performed by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, will entertain the kids.

Lyrically, the song is about how individuals can influence the perspective of others. “The song tells the story of a relationship I was in from the imagined perspective of my ex. I’m making promises and not keeping them without ever realizing the impact that it has on her”, Benjamin said on the inspiration behind the song.

The song is complimented by a vintage style clip that was shot on 16mm film. Benjamin plays a supporting role in the video, clearing the way for an emotionally driven lead performance by Tal Levy, an acclaimed Israeli dancer. The decision to take a backseat in his own video is another example of what makes Benjamin a refreshing and creative artist.

Filled with the band’s signature riffs, harmony-laden melodies and positive themes, the 11-track project is Stryper’s first studio album with Perry Richardson (Firehouse) on bass and background vocals.

“We’re incredibly happy to write a new chapter in the book of Stryper,” says vocalist/guitarist Michael Sweet, who has served as the band’s primary songwriter since its inception in 1983. “This album was recorded during the pandemic, and I believe the message pertains to the times we are living in so perfectly. It's a big, beautiful track that crackles with the courage of conviction, keeping it joyous, as though sung from atop a surfboard rather than a soapbox. There are subtle layers of additional instrumentation throughout, everything existing in perfect harmony, thanks in part to a stellar mastering job by Grammy-winner Bob Ludwig (Nirvana, Springsteen, Radiohead). "Oceans and Mountains" is the closer on a record that The Daily Vault calls "a sophisticated, cultured look into the mind of an underappreciated songsmith," but it's got all the hook and energy of an outstanding album opener.

The imagery in "Oceans and Mountains" explores territory Davison feels most at home with, literally and figuratively. The four minutes fly by, with stunning shots of surf set ablaze by the sunset, endless mountain vistas, and all the wonder to be found in between. Children play in the sand, and adults forget that they're adults and spin in warm breezes. Trippy animations of the solar system's unknowable vastness put our shared existence into delightful perspective. It's no wonder that musical reveries – dream-pop, hallucinatory psychedelia, and shimmering, elusive electronica – have become favored styles for independent-thinking musicians with restless minds. JHelix is an artist like that, and "Baby Yellow (In A Dream)," his latest single, is a conjuration from a fevered musical imagination. The songwriter and producer establishes himself as a master of each dream-style: the propulsive machine beats ground the song in electronic music, but the melody is pure, hooky, classic psychedelic pop-rock. He's paired his vision with a video that re-creates the dream experience and pulls the viewer into a wild, unfettered interior state.

That's a powerful magic trick indeed, but it's one that JHelix has pulled off many times before. His discography is notable for its many hybrid tracks: songs that balance the mind-expanding experimentation of cool electronica with the crowd-pleasing warmth of soul. His skills have earned him the admiration of musicians across genres, and he's applied his particular sound to recordings by a wide variety of prominent collaborators. He's remixed tracks by rap pioneers the Sugar Hill Gang and the Furious 5, set the dance floor on fire alongside Beatport favorite Lessnoise, and, in 2019, remixed a track by the heavenly-voiced Russian singer Vitas and Southern hip-hop true believers Nappy Roots. On his own, he's taken electronic music places it rarely goes, matching the machine throb of deep house and techno to guitars, vintage-sounding synths, and melodies and attitude derived from pop and rock. "Baby Yellow (In A Dream)" would fit in on an electronic playlist; it would have sounded just as good and appropriate coming from an old transistor radio in the mid-'80s.

The "Baby Yellow" clip displays the same independence that his productions do. With the help of a green screen and some arresting images, JHelix plunges the viewer into a dreamscape of his own invention. Spectral forests, wide oceans, a claustrophobic prison cell: JHelix takes us all of these places. He's joined by doppelgangers – masked men with strangely painted smiles, dancing skeletons, spirits of the trees, and the personification of sleep. He plays all of these characters himself. They're all dream visions authored by the artist, jockeying for prominence in his restless head.
