HIP Video Promo presents: Michael Pinder ascends with his new "Soar" music video, premiering on Medium.com

Alt-rock/pop singer-songwriter Michael Pinder introduces the music video for “Soar,” a song about letting go of the past and stoic resignation to the present

SACRAMENTO, CA, USA, March 27, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Watch the "Soar" music video premiere on Medium.com

Alt-rock/alt-pop singer-songwriter Michael Pinder introduces the music video for “Soar,” a song about letting go of the past and stoic resignation to the present, and mounting to new heights of sangfroid.

Michael sums up his musical philosophy saying, “A great band and a great song will travel.”

The son of one of the founders of The Moody Blues, while growing up, Michael was drawn to music, like steel to a magnet. Studying music in college, he wrote constantly and developed his own unique style, influenced both by the past and the present. It’s a sound blending textures of the ’60s and ’70s with contemporary savors, yet always distinctive because of his voice and superb phrasing.

In 2006, his song, “Hang on Tight,” was first runner up in the U.K. Songwriting Contest, while his duo, The Pinder Brothers, was selected Best Band in Sacramento by KCRA. Since then, he’s released multiple albums and worked with the best musicians in the Bay Area, on songs like “Ordinary Man” and “Melancholy Sea.”

With his lush, graceful tones, his previous songs “Search For September” and “So Confused” presented listeners with multifaceted harmonic layers riding gorgeous melodies rife with polished arrangements. Now, with “Soar,” his incredible virtuosity is on full display.

“Soar” opens with Michael’s tender, melancholic tones on an acoustic guitar. As the music expands and gathers momentum, gentle strings enter atop a taut rhythm and low-slung bassline. The melody builds, taking on layers of complexity and resonance, moving from sad flavors to buoyant shimmering energy.

Michael’s honeyed tenor infuses the lyrics with escalating sunniness, as radiant vocal harmonies invest the tune with remarkably charming colors, emphasizing the song’s blooming brightness.

“Soar, soar above the clouds / Just stay next to me / I’ll never let you down / Take my hand and just breathe out.”

The music video, directed by Rob Fitzgerald, is set beneath grey, rainy skies, as Michael narrates the story of a young woman, who travels through sad tolerance of her situation to swelling self-assurance. As she flourishes, she discards reminders of the past, a stuffed toy, an umbrella, a raincoat, and a love note. In the end, she stands in an open field, exhales, and we see the beginnings of a smile as she takes on new vitality.
“Soar” is both beautifully wrought and elegantly refined, exuding an aura of assertive grandeur, all highlighted by Michael Pinder’s exquisite vocal delivery.

HIP Video Promo presents: Brooklyn's Sun & Flesh premiere vicious new "Dig In Deep" music video on New Noise Magazine

Sun & Flesh

Sun & Flesh – Dig In Deep

A song all about the balance of darkness and light, heavy and soft, the new Sun & Flesh, “Dig In Deep,” is worth the bitter to taste the sweetness.

BROOKLYN, NY, USA, March 27, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Watch "Dig In Deep" on New Noise Magazine

Hard rock thrives on juxtaposition. It’s those sharp transitions between clean and dirty sound, heaviness and lightness, comfort and menace that makes the best rock songs sting as hard as they do. Sometimes the breaks are unexpected, and sometimes they’re a release of tension at the climax of a long and ominous build. The punches might come in a flurry – or a series of slow, powerful blows.

Sun & Flesh know how to do all of that. They understand that contrast is the very essence of heavy music. The very name of the Brooklyn-based band is an unlikely juxtaposition. Even before they began working with producer Dan Korneff (Breaking Benjamin, Paramore, Papa Roach), their music featured surprising twists and turns, and the interplay of shadows and light. Korneff has refined their approach and sharpened all the edges, and the new songs the group is making are the most explosive they’ve ever done. Korneff says, “The reason why I developed an early interest in this band is because the songs were so good. I can’t wait for people to hear what I hear.”

Take “Dig In Deep,” the band’s latest single. You’ll hear echoes of Nineties grunge, classic metal, atmospheric music, left field alternative rock, and even a little modern sludge. But what makes the song successful is the skill with which those elements have been combined. Jonathan Serwinowski’s thunderous drums, Matt Brewster’s growling bass, Stefan Reinberger’s scrawled leads, and Christoph Manuel’s anguished yet melodic vocals – all of it creates a single irresistible effect. The new track builds on the success the band has had with prior releases such as “Heaven,” which earned them a profile post on Metal Injection, and the pulverizing “I Don’t Care,” which firmly established them as a quartet with something meaningful to say. Through it all, they’ve remained fiercely independent, chasing their own style and conducting their own wonderfully fiendish experiments in sound, rhythm, and atmosphere.

Brewster and Manuel carry that intensity into their disturbing – but extremely entertaining – clip for “Dig In Deep.” Once again, this is a work built on unexpected juxtapositions, and sudden, jarring switches between alluring shots and distressing imagery. Attended by a group of attractive women, the group performs in the library of a suburban house. Yet as the music becomes louder and more furious, we’re treated to footage straight out of a horror show: insects, monsters, entrails, some creatively grotesque gore. There’s even a leering priest with milk dripping suggestively from his mouth. By the end of the clip, even the beautiful girls have morphed into something unlike what they initially seem to be – and their intentions, too, are revealed as something less than innocent.

Chris Russell Celebrates 10 Years of Creating Textural Electronic Soundscapes with DESTINY

Destiny album cover

Chris Russell explores slow-flowing spaces with an artistic and cinematic flair.

Chris Russell is an ambient music artist who finds inspiration from both the simplicity of nature and the vast infinity of the universe. (photograph by Chris Russell)

For over three decades, the artists of Spotted Peccary have been on a mission to develop, produce, publish and release ultra-high-quality, deep-listening experiences that engage the listener and exceed expectations.

Destiny explores the path less traveled, a slow flowing meditative space, unafraid to take chances with granular sounds, slow pans and long reverb settings.

My music is a vehicle to peer into the unknown, its all about exploring the vast expanse, with sounds of an other-worldly celestial nature. I paint a picture in the mind's eye with sounds.”

— Chris Russell

PORTLAND, OR, USA, March 27, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Chris Russell's otherworldly creations often call to mind abstract sci-fi visuals, and the surreal soundscapes on Destiny — his third solo album for Portland-based Spotted Peccary Music — continues to deliver his signature celestial stardust. Time falls away as the album's gleaming tones move with purpose toward vast horizons, rising and falling on the broad swells of a sonic sea. Destiny is available now from Spotted Peccary Music in CD format as well as 24-BIT AUDIOPHILE, CD QUALITY LOSSLESS, MP3 and music streaming formats.

Russell's mastery of expansive ambient electronic soundworlds is on full display within the music of Destiny, and the album's subtle but all-encompassing spaces give rise to an immersive and thought-provoking listening experience that breathes and evolves with nuance and depth. Through the use of delays, granular filters, and long reverbs, Russell explores slow-flowing spaces with an artistic and cinematic flair, painting a world where delicate veils of sound are frozen in slow-motion breezes, where seething pools of shimmering electrons glisten in sonic starlight, and where distant drones and faraway textures approach and recede into mysterious swirling mists.

An ambient music artist who has been recording since 2000, Chris Russell finds inspiration from both the simplicity of nature and the vast infinity of the universe. Using the studio as his instrument, he plays software and hardware synthesizers, bass guitar, and various indigenous instruments to produce textures and abstract paintings of sound. In addition to his solo and collaborative work, Chris has also contributed multiple tracks to compilation albums of electronic music.

In an interview with music journalist Robin James, Russell reveals that with Destiny he celebrates ten years of exploring the path less traveled, creating and producing his own unique forms of ambient electronic music. “My music is a vehicle to peer into the unknown, it is all about exploring the vast expanse, with sounds of an other-worldly celestial nature. I paint a picture in the mind's eye with sounds. Destiny took a lot of creative restraint from me, I kept it on a path of free flowing ambient music, not too dark, not too strange, no hard left turns. I am glad I challenged myself that way on this album. I feel it has paid off well for the listener.”

In describing the music, James writes, “At the heart of each track you’ll find trillions of tiny bits of sound, or grains, and the craft involves manipulating each grain’s duration, pitch and so on, for awesome visualizations in your mind’s eye. It’s not often that you can come across such sonic particles of dust or sand that are being energetically lifted to great heights by a strong and turbulent wind, and when it all calms you find yourself on a sunrise-gold beach.”

Russell’s previous offerings through Spotted Peccary include Echo (2018), Labyrinth (2017), and the 2014 collaboration with ambient electronic composer Phillip Wilkerson titled Vague Traces. Visit his artist page at https://spottedpeccary.com/artists/chris-russell/

Destiny was mastered by Ben Cox at Syndrome Studio. The CD version of Destiny, designed by Daniel Pipitone, is in a factory sealed 6-panel gatefold package that includes all artwork, liner notes, and a 4-page booklet. The album is available worldwide for physical purchase in CD format and in 24-BIT AUDIOPHILE, CD QUALITY LOSSLESS, MP3 and streaming formats.

We hope that when you listen to the lyrics, God’s peace that passes all understanding would just wash over you and remind you that He’s in control.”

“I Will Fear No More”
Written by Joshua Havens, Jason Ingram, Jordan Mohilowski, Matt Fuqua, Dan Ostebo

Every anxious thought that steals my breath
It’s a heavy weight upon my chest
As I lie awake and wonder what the future will hold
Help me to remember that You’re in control

You’re my courage when I worry in the dead of night
You’re my strength ‘cause I’m not strong enough to win this fight
You are greater than the battle raging in my mind
I will trust you, Lord
I will fear no more.

I will lift my eyes
I will lift my cares
Lay them in Your hands
I’ll leave them there
When the wind and waves are coming
You shelter me
Even though I’m in the storm, the storm is not in me

You’re my courage when I worry in the dead of night
You’re my strength ‘cause I’m not strong enough to win this fight
You are greater than the battle raging in my mind
I will trust you, Lord
I will fear no more.

The 3rd Edition of “The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock” by Charles Snider To be Released March 27, 2020

The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock Third Edition Cover

The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock Third Edition

The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock, 3rd Edition
• Reviews of 510+ albums from 1967 – 1982
• 572 pages
• Fully edited, proofread and fact-checked

ASHEVILLE, NC, USA, March 25, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Back in print for 2020! The definitive record guide to the progressive era of rock music, Strawberry Bricks presents a comprehensive discography with reviews of 500+ albums, with band histories, musical synopses, key tracks and critical commentary, all presented in the historical context of a timeline. Beginning in 1967 and continuing through 1982, a generation of musicians took rock music in directions unforeseen as they charted what would become known as progressive rock. From art rock to krautrock, from England to Germany to Italy and all across Europe, Strawberry Bricks offers a candid reappraisal of rock’s most cerebral genre. Also for this edition, Matt Howarth has revisited his original artwork from the first edition of the book.

Says Charles, “The newly written Prologue offers a historical perspective of the pretext to the progressive era, beginning post-WWII, while the Epilogue offers a current perspective on progressive rock since the early 80's. I've also spent a good deal of time fact-checking every detail in the book, including song titles and artist names. Further, this edition has been professionally edited and peer reviewed, all to make this as exacting and rewarding a book as the music it covers. Strawberry Bricks is another narrative on the classic era of progressive rock, one with hopefully a novel and candid outlook on the genre, its albums and the men that made it one of the most interesting chapters in rock's history.”

With 212 more reviews, 210 more pages, completely fact-checked and professionally edited, and with a full index, the third edition is a substantial upgrade to owners of the first edition of the book. For owners of the second edition, Matt Howarth once again revisits his original artwork for Strawberry Bricks. Enjoy the music!

Praise for Strawberry Bricks:

“In Strawberry Bricks Charles Snider gives us a history of progressive rock from 1967 to 1982 through his astute, colourful and insightful entries on a personal selection of over 500 albums – and not always the obvious choices. He acts as an informed and trustworthy guide leading the reader on a fascinating journey through the genre.” – Mike Barnes, A New Day Yesterday: UK Progressive Rock & The 1970s

“Snider’s research is impeccable, his writing style enjoyable and it’s hard to fault the inclusion of any of the hundreds of albums he covers.” – Kev Rowland, The Progressive Underground

“Most impressive! I can see it’s phenomenally well researched. Well done.” – Hugh Banton, Van der Graaf Generator

Comments on previous editions of Strawberry Bricks:

“Only one major book on progressive rock that matters has been published this year, and it's this one: The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock (Revised and Expanded Edition) by Charles Snider. This is a work of great passion and expertise by a true aficionado and historian of the form. It's an exhaustive, comprehensive and engaging overview of the genre. It also offers 500+ reviews of important albums from the "golden era" of this music from 1967 to 1982. This is a valuable addition to the library of every enthusiast of progressive music.” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews

“Charles Snider has an encyclopedic knowledge of progressive rock, and has accrued one of the world’s most formidable record collections. No one is better equipped to write the definitive discography of this rich genre of music.” – Jonathan Schang, District 97

About the Author:
Charles Snider has been collecting records since the early 1970s, amassing one of the most complete archives of progressive rock. “One of my earliest memories of vinyl was The Beatles' 'Paperback Writer' b/w 'Rain.' Musically, my love for British music and everything thereafter starts with The Beatles. My daughters are even named after Beatles’ songs!” Snider's self-professed passion for the music “archaeology” continued over the decades, branching out to many other genres of music. “In the early 90s, Kevin Eden and I curated the WMO label, with the cooperation and support of Wire. The CD was a new format, and we released a lot of hard to find records, as well as unreleased archival material and two very good tribute discs.” Upon moving to Chicago in 2000, he began writing the first edition of The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock. “I've always loved record guides. Certainly, Ira Robbin’s Trouser Press was the prototype, but growing up in the 70s with magazines like Circus, Creem and of course Rolling Stone, I've always enjoyed the passion writers convey about music.” While not listening to prog rock in his man-cave, Snider can be found blogging about personal technology or cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 3rd Edition of “The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock” will be released on March 27th, 2020. Available directly from http://strawberrybricks.com/the-book, and from Amazon.com (including UK, JP and the EU). Metal Band FROM HELL Releases RATS & RAVENS, A New Horror Story in the FROM HELL Anthology

From Hell

ASHEVILLE, NC, USA, March 25, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Metal horror band FROM HELL returns in 2020 with a new album called RATS & RAVENS. Staying true to the vision that each release is a concept album, Aleister Sinn (the live persona of George Anderson, creator/writer of FROM HELL), releases an album both dark and sinister.

Mid 13th Century…somewhere in eastern Europe
“A father disturbs an evil in the east. A witch comes to steal his son and the children of the village to make them her own. She sacrifices them and reanimates the dead with the blessings from the god of vermin. With rats, she brings them back to life and calls them Lilium.”

RATS & RAVENS will be available worldwide on May 22 in stores and online!

RATS & RAVENS features Aleister Sinn on vocals and guitar, Wes Anderson on drums, Stephen Paul Goodwin on bass and Steve Smyth on lead guitar. As the band rehearsed the songs with Sinn, the richness of what Wes, Steve, and Stephen brought to the material from their varied backgrounds of musical experience added a depth to each song that was later realized in the final recordings.

FROM HELL recorded the album with Greg Wilkinson (High on Fire, Necrot, Autopsy) at Earhammer Studio in Oakland, CA. Sinn says, “When we returned from tour in Russia 2017, we recorded two new songs with Greg and we really liked working with Greg and what we heard. He records bands in a more natural way than many metal engineers and producers and doesn’t rely on sound replacement, but captures great tones to start with and the final mixes of our album came out very natural sounding, heavy and produced, but not over-produced. I personally am pleased.”

Mastering was handled by Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More, Annhilator, Cynic) at MaorAppelbaum Mastering in Los Angeles.

George Anderson (aka Aleister Sinn) has played guitar and vocals for the SF Bay area bands Down Factor and Grandma, a tribute to King Diamond. Wes Anderson has played drums for Les Claypool, Idiot Flesh, Blind Illusion, Young Lions (Noah of Neurosis), SOSA, and Kehoe Nation. Steve Smyth has played guitar for Testament, Nevermore, Dragonlord, Forbidden, Vicious Rumors and One Machine. Stephen Paul Goodwin on bass has played for Vicious Rumors, Diablo Dukes, Journey Unauthorized and has played or recorded with Brad Gillis, Mick Mestec, Eric Peterson, Will Carroll, Phil Bennett, Sticks Hooper, Eric Barnett and Salar Nader.

RATS & RAVENS is the follow up to the first FROM HELL album Ascent From Hell, which is as heavy as it is epic. The album tells a horror story about a corpse that wakes up in Hell only to find he must go back to earth, recover his soul that still lives inside another body and drag it back to Hell. Ascent From Hell featured metal icons Paul Bostaph, Steve Smyth, and Damien Sisson.

SEATTLE, WA, USA, March 24, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Check out "Mystery Girl" by Maribased1 on Last Day Deaf

About Maribased1

A lot of rappers love to talk about how they came up all on their own. What they're less excited to spit bars about is that they happened to be a part of a hugely hyped scene, a crew with a platinum artist or two, or were a record exec's 3rd cousin. Inner-city Seattle's Maribased1 is a true lone wolf, running it in a city that isn't exactly known for hip-hop – yet. But if he keeps hustling at the level of "Mystery Girl," pretty soon every other MC north of Oakland is going to be claiming they were kicking it in Rainier Beach way back in the day. His videos for "Bouncin" and "Score’n" racked up solid plays on BET Jams and MTV On-Demand, huge for an independent artist. The BJ&J Entertainment artist packed them in on a tour with controversial LA MC Blueface, while his videos have already blown past a million views. You heard what he said: he's score’n.

About "Mystery Girl"

Maribased1 coined his style "The Northern Flow," because no current catch-alls or buzzwords did his echo-drenched, laid back tracks justice. Try not to look surprised when some young-uns start repping it a year from now. Throughout "Mystery Girl," he kicks his signature zen-like flow atop a piano-and-synth bounce, with bars upon bars full of unexpected phrasings and subtle switch-ups. After "Score’n" and "Bouncin," he takes a break from the braggadocio to tell a seldom-told, uplifting tale of a strong, resilient, independent woman. His awe of her, and his vocal energy, grow with each verse as he rattles off her struggles and triumphs. The track caps off with the loopy groove of a trademark Maribased1 rock guitar lead, leaving us as blown away by this Queen as the man himself.

About the video

Director Rob Fitzgerald set up a dual narrative for "Mystery Girl," a before-and-after Cinderella story that paints a striking picture of the life she left behind, and the one she's since built for herself. Most of the clip is set in her baller high-rise apartment, overlooking downtown Seattle. In these scenes, all Mystery Girl's got to do to let you know who's on top is be herself, lounging with a glass of wine in hand, against the night sky. But when her mind wanders, she relives the not-so-good old days. Now in the harsh light of day, she's arguing with a boyfriend – played by Mista Benjamin, Seattle hip-hop staple and head of BJ&J Entertainment – who's clearly beneath her, staring into the mirror asking herself some hard questions, and finally walking out for good. It's history she's never going to repeat. Maribased1 ends his own screen time, and the video, with a nice visual callback to a classic about another mysterious woman, by the name of Billie Jean.
