Songwriter & Photographer Couple are November’s NPAF Gettysburg Military Park Artists-in-Residence

Couple are residents at Gettysburg National Military Park, thanks to the National Parks Arts Foundation

As a songwriter, I want to attempt to tell some of those stories, to give a voice to some of the people on both sides who were affected by the battle and aftermath.

— Michela Ferree, NPAF Resident for November

GETTYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, USA, November 15, 2016 / — GETTYSBURG, PA — Gettysburg National Military Park’s Artists-in-Residence for the month of November will be singer and songwriter, and author Michela Miller Ferree and her husband George, a photographer and video artist.

Michela and George Ferree will spend mid-November through mid-December at the park, working and interacting with Gettysburg visitors. Michela has experience as a music teacher as well as an environmental educator at the Cincinnati Zoo, so she enjoys public interaction. The Ferrees will meet with park visitors on December 10 in the Refreshment Saloon at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, for a fireside performance of songs inspired by the Civil War. The free program will be from 1 to 2 p.m.

Michela will be writing songs about the human stories inspired by the hallowed ground of Gettysburg. “Gettysburg is full of thousands of stories. As a songwriter, I want to attempt to tell some of those stories, to give a voice to some of the people on both sides who were affected by the battle and aftermath. There are so many themes to choose from when thinking about creating songs. Leaving home, brother against brother, loss, hope, unity, divisiveness, giving up your life for a cause, realizing that you don't even know why you're fighting, young, poor men as pawns for old, rich men… it's endless. The stories already exist, I just have to find them and translate them into song.”

George plans to photograph a variety of the more than 1300 monuments to soldiers who fought on both sides of the battle, using the ultra-low light capability of his camera to catch time and starlight on the wing. “Storytelling and emotion are what I love about photography; video is composed of thousands of photos, each adding its own element to the emotion and story. In my photography, I want to tell stories at night.”

Michela grew up in neighboring Ohio, in President Grant’s hometown. In fact, her father often played the legendary union General at schools and other events. “He portrayed Grant, to whom he bore an uncanny resemblance. As a result of his participation, I had “forced” participation of my own. Imagine the horror of a 13-year-old girl when her teacher gets her dad to present a lecture to her seventh grade history class, dressed in Union blues. I spent all of Jr. High as ‘the general’s daughter’.”

But she also sang and performed in period costume at events where her family was often drafted into action. “Most of my family lives in my home town, and most of them are very musically gifted, so music has always been encouraged. I cut my musical teeth singing at churches and on stages in my hometown. My hometown gave me strong roots, and moving away was difficult, but I feel like I've blossomed by foraging out of my comfort zone.” Michela upped roots and headed to Fairbanks, Alaska, where she met her husband, and together they moved to Nashville, before setting in Seattle.

George, an Alaska native, has often been inspired by the amazing vistas and light of his native state, and is curious to use his spirit of wonder on the landscapes of the park at night. “I was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. Alaska is a never ending flow of artistic inspiration. It was the northern lights that really struck a chord inside me; being able to capture a natural event of that caliber gave me fulfillment that no other medium of art ever had. Ultimately, seeing events and places through a viewfinder allows me a deeper connection with them.”

The National Parks Arts Foundation (NPAF), a 501(c)3 non-profit, is excited to continue and expand this program with the National Park Service at Gettysburg National Military Park and the Gettysburg Foundation to provide the Gettysburg National Military Park Artist-in-Residence program. This is the last residency program at Gettysburg National Military Park this year. In 2017, the NPAF residency program is growing to 12 AiRs in four categories: Electronic New Media, Word/Sound/Song, Open Media, and an innovative & brand new program for Artists who are Armed Forces Veterans.

The program is offered thanks to the input and support of the National Park Service and the Gettysburg Foundation whose joint efforts make the park the foremost visitor destination for those interested in the epic history of the American Civil War.

"Gettysburg’s monuments and memorials, and the battlefield landscapes inspire so much passion in our visitors today, and the Artists-in-Residence really highlight that passion," said Ed W. Clark, superintendent of Gettysburg National Military Park. "The Artist-in-Residence programs are engaging new audiences and making deeper connections with our visitors through the power and the passion of art."

“The Artist-in-Residence program is a refreshing way to make the stories from Gettysburg's rich history come to life,” said Barbara Sardella, Interim President of the Gettysburg Foundation. “Integrating art into the Gettysburg experience is a long-term Foundation goal. At the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, we use the magnificent Cyclorama painting and our new Civil War Art Exhibit to depict the courageous soldiers and civilians, ordinary people, caught up in extraordinary situations. The talented artists of this program like Michela and George Ferree, who interact with our visitors and local residents create a spark when they offer a very different lens through which to view war, people, and the power of this place called Gettysburg."

Trump’s agenda to fight corruption is revealed, involving our youth rising up to drain the swamp.

Anonymous align with Donald to drain the swamp of corruption by stampeding the wealthy 1%. More will be revealed as we activate to get our jobs back.

The wealthy are desperate to keep us working class down, buy the media and claim Trump has no empathy for us working people. But … Donald knows Anonymous insists that he fulfill his election promise.

— Dr. Chris Tingle

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, November 15, 2016 / — President-elect Donald Trump’s secret agenda to fight global corruption of the wealthy 1% is revealed, an agenda that involves the youth of the Globe rising up against the rigged system to drain the swamp.
Donald Trump naysayers were misguided to assume that Donald planned to drain the swamp merely by becoming President of the United States. Members of the Non Generation Movement (NGM) and Anonymous have now aligned with Donald to clean-up corruption by stampeding the traditional media and the wealthy 1% into exposing their biases by deploying devious practices to thwart the revolution… More will become revealed to We the People as we prepare for the post-election aftermath and activate to get our jobs back. Remember the million mask march?
As for Chris Tingle… She has published some of the proposed strategies of the Non Generation Movement and Anonymous designed to bring social justice to us blue collar working class people and disenfranchised poor, strategies that will disinherit the wealthy 1%.
Dr. Tingle also documents the manner by which the media vilify the words of Chris Tingle, Donald Trump, Anonymous, and all who oppose the establishment to demonstrate that the traditional media has serious bias problems that work against freedom of speech.
The wealthy opposition have proven to be ruthlessly desperate to keep us working people down by buying the media and claiming that Donald Trump has no empathy for the plight of us poor – is not one of us. But think again… Donald knows that we will not be placated and that he must fulfill his election promises.
And if Hillary was so smart, how come she got her lack of integrity exposed by a mere construction-kid from the Bronx like Donald?
And if Donald is so psychologically flawed, how come he knows how to inspire us working-class people to help him drain the swamp?

Freedom Rings Loud at Record-Breaking 1000 Man Shoot

Henry Repeating Arms and the NRA complete successful record-breaking 1000 Man Shoot in Arizona.

PHOENIX, AZ, UNITED STATES, November 15, 2016 / — Less than a week after one of the most important elections of our lifetime, Henry Repeating Arms and the National Rifle Association (NRA) came together in an unsurpassed display of support for the Second Amendment at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, Arizona.

On Monday, November 14th 1000 proud shooters from 16 states stood side-by-side in a line spanning a mile and a half long and simultaneously fired two shots from a commemorative Henry Golden Boy Silver 1000 Man Edition .22 caliber rifle under the close supervision of the NRA.

The world record-breaking event was a combined effort between Henry Repeating Arms, one of the country’s leading firearms manufacturers, and the National Rifle Association. Henry donated the custom engraved rifles and all proceeds will support various NRA initiatives, including those targeted towards promoting Firearms Safety, Youth Shooting Sports, Disabled Shooters, and the Eddie Eagle Child Safety programs, as well as the NRA’s unwavering efforts to protect our country’s Second Amendment rights. A million-dollars is expected to be raised.

Anthony Imperato, President of Henry Repeating Arms commented on the event, “The Henry 1000 Man Shoot was all that I had hoped it would be and more. Looking out at a sea of 1000 participants, their families, and 400 volunteers was very emotional. There was a tremendous sense of patriotism and I'll never forget it.”

During his welcome speech Imperato reminded the crowd, “Whether we have a President that supports the 2nd Amendment or not, we should never be asleep at the wheel and we must always continue to fight for our freedoms and traditions. So let’s send a loud message to whatever powers that be, that we will never give up the fight. Let Freedom Ring!”

Kia of Puyallup Increases Website Visitors, Video Views & Sales with Flick Fusion's SmartFlicks Video Marketing Platform

Our website used to average 13,000 visitors per month and now we are averaging 16,000 visitors. Prior to June, our inventory videos averaged 300 views per month and now they average 1,800 views.

— Ryan Sawyer, President, Kia of Puyallup

URBANDALE, IA, UNITED STATES, November 15, 2016 / — Kia of Puyallup has increased the volume of its website visitors by 23 percent, video views by 500 percent, new car sales by six percent and used car sales by three percent since implementing a new video marketing strategy using Flick Fusion's SmartFlicks platform.

In June 2016 the Kia dealership went live with more than a dozen content-rich value proposition, customer testimonial videos and a video showroom. The store also upgraded the quality and visibility of its vehicle inventory videos, and integrated them onto video landing pages. The improvement in metrics was immediately noticeable.

"From June until now there has been a steady increase of website visitors every month," said Ryan Sawyer, President of Kia of Puyallup. "Our website used to average 13,000 visitors per month and now we are averaging 16,000 visitors per month. Prior to June, our inventory videos averaged 300 views per month and now they average 1,800 views per month."

Located in the competitive Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area, Kia of Puyallup is one of Washington state's largest volume Kia dealers and a multi-year recipient of Kia's prestigious Kia Dealer Excellence award. Sawyer's primary goal for the store's digital marketing strategy is to give the online customer a sense of what it's like to do business with the dealership. Sawyer believes video is the ideal medium to accomplish that goal.

"I've been interested in video marketing for a long time," said Sawyer. In fact he has been using Flick Fusion's SmartFlicks platform to produce stitched-photo inventory videos for several years. However, prior to June the videos had not performed as well as Sawyer had originally hoped for.

"The inventory videos were buried within the Vehicle Details Pages (VDPs), so a person would have to click on the pictures and then on the last picture there would be a link to the video," said Sawyer. "In some cases the videos were hidden behind a tab. This year I wanted to take a different approach and give the videos a more prominent position on our website."

In January of 2016 Sawyer partnered with What's Next Media, a video production company that specializes in auto retailing, as well as a Flick Fusion partner. Andrew Myers, one of the founders of What's Next Media, is very familiar with the SmartFlicks platform.

"What I like about SmartFlicks is that it's all automated," said Myers. "We create the videos and load them into the back end, and Flick Fusion does the rest. The pages are created automatically, the videos are pushed out to Autotrader and other sites, and the videos are immediately accessible from the dealership's CRM. We used to do all this manually but with Flick Fusion we can focus purely on creating great videos."

What's Next Media and Flick Fusion both worked with Kia of Puyallup to develop a video marketing strategy that included the following steps:

• Upgrade quality of existing inventory videos by switching from Text-to-Speech videos to Human Voiceover videos
• Ensure video links are clearly visible on every VDP page
• Feature every video on its own landing page with a lead form and four other videos to keep viewers engaged
• Create more than a dozen value proposition, service department and customer testimonial videos
• Create a video showroom on Kia of Puyallup's website featuring all videos including Autoflicks, Flick Fusion's educational model-level videos that showcase new model releases

The new videos and marketing strategy went live in June 2016. In the five months since, Sawyer has noticed a steady increase in the number of website visitors, video views, phone leads, showroom visitors and sales.

"What's interesting is the overall number of website leads has not increased, but we have noticed a pretty sharp spike in the number of people who are calling and coming into our showroom," said Sawyer. "Many customers come in with a specific car in mind, especially in used. They are fairly educated about the car they want and the closing rate on these customers is well north of 50 percent."

Andrew Myers with What's Next Media emphasizes how Kia of Puyallup's video marketing strategy matches the store's sales process. "The measurement I would use is not hits and views, but how well the videos reflect the process and personality of the store," he said. "The goal is to attract customers with videos of vehicles they're interested in, then bring them down funnel. Once they're in that video showroom it's about flooding them with information about the dealership; how the dealership is part of the community, why you should do business with them, what other customers have to say, etc."

Sawyer is enthusiastic about the results. "The video landscape is competitive and we're not the only dealership that's finding video is important," he said. "Upgrading the quality of our inventory videos has proven to be a win-win."

The next step for Kia of Puyallup is to further expand their video marketing strategy. "We're fine tuning the process of how we can get these videos out and visible in more places," said Sawyer. "We're just starting to get them integrated into our email marketing, social media and every day lead follow up. We're excited about all the opportunities."

Jimmy Jean-Louis in Opening Night Romantic Comedy “Everything But a Man”

Hollywood celebrity and socially conscious actor Jimmy Jean-Louis will be Guest of Honor of the 24th ADIFF (Nov. 25 to Dec. 11)

"Jimmy Jean-Louis is a very talented actor and a wonderful, generous individual. I know spending our Thanksgiving Weekend with him will be very special!"

— Diarah Spech – ADIFF Co-Director

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA, November 15, 2016 / — Truly a “rags to riches” story, Haitian-born actor Jimmy Jean-Louis grew up in the slums of Pétionville, Haiti until age 12 before moving to France and then to Los Angeles where he settled in 1998 to pursue an acting career. He is now a Hollywood celebrity.

His deep love for his homeland caused him to shift his focus from his acting career to help rebuild Haiti, ravaged by the 7.0 earthquake of January 12th, 2010. Since then, Jimmy has been very involved and often does interviews to speak about the situation in Haiti as he recently did following the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Matthew early last month.

Jimmy Jean-Louis is currently in Paris, France where he is shooting a TV show for TF1 based on a book by Harlan Coben "Just a look" with the French actress Virginie Ledoyen. Keeping his long time commitment to Haiti at heart, he was able to stay in touch with the Haitian Embassy in Paris to coordinate some of the help that came from France following Hurricane Matthew.

His credits include Toussaint Louverture (Best Actor at the Pan African Film Festival), Tears of the sun (with Bruce Willis), Phat Girlz (Mo’Nique), NBC Hit show Heroes, CW show Arrow, CBS Extant with Halle Berry produced by Steven Spielberg and more recently Joy with Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro directed by David O Russell. In addition to shooting the TF1 TV show in Paris, Jimmy Jean-Louis is also currently shooting The Way, another TV show for Canal+ directed by Camille Delamarre (Brick Mansion, Transporter).

ADIFF Guest of Honor Jimmy Jean-Louis will attend the festival on November 25 and 26, 2016 in his capacity of actor, producer and Ambassador at large of his native country, Haiti. On Nov. 25, after attending the VIP Opening Night reception, he will present Opening Night romantic comedy Everything But a Man by Nnegest Likké (USA) about an African-American career woman (Monica Calhoun, The Best Man Holiday) who is sexy, strong, successful… and still single until she meets a mysterious Black man from another culture (Jimmy Jean-Louis).

On Saturday, November 26, he will participate in discussions following the presentation of the films The President has AIDS? by Arnold Antonin (Haiti) and Toussaint Louverture by Philippe Niang (France). On Saturday evening, Jimmy Jean-Louis will have a conversation with Lewis R. Gordon, Ph.D. Professor of Philosophy at UCONN-Storrs and Chairperson of the Awards Committee, Caribbean Philosophical Association, to talk about his life, his career and Haiti. The day will close with a reception.
